Fact Sheet about registered insurance brokers provided by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO). Registered insurance brokers provide independent advice and offer Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance products from multiple companies. To operate, brokers must be licensed by RIBO and are required to maintain an errors and omissions policy, along with a fidelity bond, ensuring customer protection in the rare event of mishandling by the broker. Additionally, RIBO licensees must adhere to the RIBO Code of Conduct, which outlines the standards and rules for professional behavior.
The Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations (CISRO) has put our a document that articulates the expectations for professional behaviour and conduct responsibilities of all all insurance intermediaries including insurance brokers throughout Canada.
